Debunking Root Canal Myths

Many people are confused about root canal therapy due to the myths surrounding the procedure. Here, Dr. Rolin Desir and the Conyers Endodontic Center team debunk some of these myths.

Myth: Root Canals Are Painful.

Fact: It’s the infected tooth and not the procedure that causes pain. Root canal therapy eliminates this pain. A local anesthetic is used to numb the area during the procedure.

Myth: Root Canals Cause Illness.

Fact: There is no valid, scientific evidence that root canal treatments lead to diseases in other parts of the body.

Myth: Does A Root Canal Remove the Tooth Roots or The Entire Tooth?

Fact: The procedure is performed to save a tooth, not remove it. It involves cleaning and shaping the root canals on the inside. The nerve tissue, pulp, and some internal roots are removed to eliminate the bacteria.
